The Rice Collector is a site-specific installation developed for Jogja Biennale 17 and is part of an ongoing series of works - Harvesting Structures - designed as utopian harvesting tools and monumental structures that pay tribute to agricultural workers. The structure of The Rice Collector is assembled from local materials using different types of bamboo, local rice baskets and natural fibre wires. Set amidst a dry land, the work also addresses the issue of rice shortage due to draughts caused by the seasonal changes, privatization of lands, and urbanization increasingly affecting the rural areas of Bangunjiwo and the local ecosystem.
